Digital Collapse is a up and coming Alternative Metal band, Who have just released their debut EP, produced by Clint Lowery (Sevendust and Call Me No One) and we, at Phoenix Music were lucky enough to catch up with the guys to talk everything from working with Clint to the thought of having super powers and how the world is being dictated by media.
Q: How did you guys get together?
A: Tom Godin (drums) and Ian Zuckerman (guitar) had spent most of 2012 writing new material together. Intending to start an all-new original band based out Wilkes-Barre, PA, the duo contacted vocalist Corey Kipps out of Martinsburg, WV. Following a successful audition, Corey recruited Tyler Metz of Charles Town, WV to play guitar for the band. Shortly after, bassist Bryan Jackson was invited in by Ian, completing the line-up.
Q: Where did your name come from?
A: “Digital Collapse” is a reflection of today’s society being dictated and controlled by the media. It is a nod towards the “collapse” we’re seeing in the era that the world has entered.
Q: How would you describe your sound?
A: We blend different genres and styles within one solid rock/metal frame. We try to make our sound unique, while at the same time carefully combining a heavy and aggressive force with accessible and radio-friendly characteristics.
Q: What was it like working with Clint Lowery?
A: Having Clint Lowery as a producer was not only a fun experience, but a professional one that shed some serious light on our song-writing process. It was very cool to have his input on the EP and to see his reaction to the gradual formation of it. We couldn’t have worked with a better guy.
Q: Are there any plans to bring shows over to Europe?
A: Absolutely! We’d like to see the world and have the world see us!
Q: Who inspires you?
A: As a unit, music in general inspires us. Our families inspire us, as well as our favorite artists, actors, hobbies (video games, fitness, art, etc). The world gives us many meaningful things to base our songs on.
Q: What music are you guys listening to at the moment?
A: Tom – Sevendust, Atreyu, Lacuna Coil
Ian – Sevendust: Black Out the Sun, American Head Charge, Andy Timmons
Corey – Karnivool, Daft Punk, My Chemical Romance
Tyler – Suffocation, CKY, System of a Down, Devin Townsend Project
Bryan – “Anything I can pick up on the radio while driving”
Q: Did the EP turn out how you wanted it to?
A: Yes, we are very satisfied. It has a thick sound that can only be achieved by the guys at Architekt Studios.
Q: How does it feel to have your music out there?
A: It feels wonderful. We’re trying to push it as far as it will go and we only hope that people can relate the music to their lives and discover the loads of emotions and values we’ve done our best to pour into it.
Q: If you could share the stage with one band, who would it be?
A: Sevendust, without a doubt.
Q: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
A: Well, Tom would still be recording other artists (which he does at Side B Studios). Ian would be seeing the world and working as a personal trainer. Corey would be drawing and pursuing a career as a video game developer. Tyler would be writing music for other artists, and Bryan would be spending more quality time with his son, still making music on the side.
One for fun….
Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
A: Tom – To not require sleep
Ian – To run as fast as the T-1000
Corey – Telekinesis
Tyler – Immortality
Bryan – Flight
