I had chance to catch up with Light Parades while they were on tour and here´s what they had to say….
Where did the name Light Parades come from?
We came up with the name whilst in the studio during the recording of our debut album ‘Through All Times’. Can’t quite recall how or why it happened but we all liked it and the name seemed to suit the band & our music at the time.
How did the band get together?
Myself (Dan), Ste & Ollie were members of a band previously called Into Flight. After having a hiatus of a few of years we decided to start making music together again, and after meeting Jakub at university in London, and the line-up was complete and everything started to flow.
Are you planning a UK/European tour?
YES!! We just completed a short UK tour to promote the release of our album, and were hungry for more. We loved every second of the tour, so we are looking at booking another batch of dates in July and hopefully we can try and do a full UK & European tour in October (if you would like us to play near you please get in touch and let us know).
How would you describe your sound?
This is a hard one. I guess you could describe us best as Alternative/Indie Pop. The album has quite a varied sound, with lots of piano, guitar & vocal melodies so probably best if you have a listen and decide for yourselves…
If you weren’t in the music industry, Where would you be?
Unfortunately we all have our day jobs, so when we’re not on tour or in the studio we have to endure the daily grind in offices, coffee shops and even gyms to pay the rent and to put back into recording etc.
Who are your musical influences?
Here are some… Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie, Bjork, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Maccabees, The Boxer Rebellion, Everything Everything, Catherine Wheel.
Did the record turn out how you had envisioned it?
Well, to be honest we didn’t really have any expectations, as when we started recording we only had three tracks finished, and it was more the case of building an album as opposed to having a pool of songs and choosing the best ones for it. We’re happy with the record, but we’re really looking forward to recording our second and having a vision to work towards.
How have you found the whole writing/recording process?
We love recording, we love everything about it. Writing is just something we’ve always done, and we will always do. We’re lucky to be able to make records, and we hope to do this whole process over and over.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Right now I’m listening to the new James Blake record, his voice is pretty amaze.
Finally….One for fun
What´s your favorite color?
Well, Ste loves blue and hates red, so I’ll say red just to wind him up..
